BAs a new father, I’ve grown to appreciate simple but effective cleaning products.

Dirt Devil AccuCharge 15.6-volt BD10045RED Review

Budget is always an issue and you have to priority how and where to spend your money.

And with the AccuCharge 15.6-volt hand held, Dirt Devil has allowed families starting up to own a hand held with decent cleaning power at just under $30. What I like about this? The 3-year warranty!

Dirt Devil claims that the BD10045 15.6-volt cordless handheld will save you as much as 70% on electricity costs because it is has the AccuCharge system that reduces current to a trickle once it detects that battery is full.

This feature is also found it Dirt Devil’s stick vacuum. It is Energy Star rated and it got a B-rating from Good Housekeeping.

Features are pretty standard for a handheld – it comes with a foldable crevice tool and a pull out brush tool.

What’s great about it is that since these tools can be stored with the vacuum itself, there is little chance to misplace any of these.

Pros

  • Relatively short 6-hour charge time
  • Charger will not fry the battery even if it’s plugged in
  • Storage space on the vacuum
  • Good suction power especially on hard surfaces
  • Long 3-year warranty
  • Uses less electricity

Cons

  • Noisy
  • You can’t replace the battery
  • Narrow opening
  • Filters aren’t washable
  • Small dirt cup

What to expect from the Dirt Devil AccuCharge 15.6-volt Hand Held Vacuum?

Obviously the feature that stands out is the AccuCharge system that basically allows you to leave this plugged in all the time without the risk of burning out the batteries.

The energy star rating means that this vacuum will help you save energy up to 70%.

The downer is that it only comes with a Nickel Cadmium battery that is heavier and doesn’t hold its charge well.

Though despite this Dirt Devil was still able to keep its weight down to just a little over 3 pounds.

Allergy sufferers, HEPA filters are available for this model, just in case you’re wondering.

Here are the features

  • Powered by a 15.6-volt nickel cadmium battery
  • Quick flip crevice tool and retractable brush
  • 6-hour charge time
  • Energy star compliant
  • Features the AccuCharge technology that reduces current to a trickle when it detects battery is full
  • Comes with a wall mountable charger (mounting screws included)
  • 1.5 inch nozzle width
  • Bagless

Attachments and accessories

This one comes with two attachments both can be stored within the vacuum so there is very little risk of misplacing them or worst losing them.

It has a crevice tool that’ll really help in reaching tight crevices and extends the reach to clean areas above you like the edges of windows.

Also there is a pull out brush tool that you can use to clean dust.

Charging time

Dirt Devil states it takes around 6-hours to fully charge but since this has the AccuCharge System, you can leave it on the charger without worrying about overcharging the battery because this system cuts down current to a trickle once it detects that the battery is full.

Filter clean up

Emptying dirt is easy:

  1. Push a release button located on the top of the vacuum to separate the dirt cup from the motor.
  2. Gently pull out the filter holder that holds the filter
  3. Empty the dirt cup on a garbage basket

Dirt Devil states that the filters included in the package aren’t washable but washable filters can be purchased separately through Amazon.

Some consumers have washed it and reused it without any problem but to prevent any issues with the warranty, but extra filters and replace them when needed.

Run time

The manufacturer doesn’t state any run time numbers but consumers have reported roughly around 20 to 30 minutes.

Customer service and warranty

Customer service has been pretty good with consumers reporting that Dirt Devil does honor the 3-year warranty, offering replacement vacuums if the original has defects in it. It comes with a 3-year limited warranty on parts and motor.

Bare floor cleaning

Good housekeeping said that this excelled in cleaning up hard floors and consumers in Amazon have confirmed this.

They’ve used this to pick up loose debris on this surface like dust, dander, crumbs and pet hair. If your home has mostly hard floors, getting this hand vac will make a lot of sense.

Carpet Cleaning

At best this will do a decent job picking up loose dirt on carpet but because it doesn’t come with a pet hair attachment or a motorized brush, so don’t rely on this to remove any type of hair on this surface.

Suction will be strong enough to remove surface dirt but not debris buried deep.

Pet Hair Removal

Cleaning pet hair off hard floors can be an issue on both hard floor and carpet because of the narrow opening also it doesn’t have any attachment with a motorized brush. So don’t rely on this to clean pet hair.

Customer Reviews

Close to 600 people reviewed this product in Amazon and close to 500 gave it a positive review!

A lot of people like the power that this vacuums bring to the table. Run time is also a positive – it will run for up to 30 minutes. You can left this plugged in and not worry about battery burning out.

This means that it’ll have better longevity and you’ll spend less in the long haul.

There weren’t a lot of pet owners in the reviews but those who have pets seem to be happy with the results.

This would be most suitable on bare floor surfaces.

Some issues include the wall mountable charger that consumers say isn’t sturdy enough. One said that his vacuum fell from it and broke.

Other complaints include the battery not being able to hold charge, bristles that are flimsy and the crevice tool that you need close to 90 degree angle so it completely touch the surface it’s cleaning.

Reviews from other sites

NewEgg

Only 4 people left a review here and all of them were positive. They liked the power and the AccuCharge system that does not overcharge.

There were minor gripes here about the brush tool not being as robust to be pushed on carpet.

DirtDevil.com

Surprisingly only 3 people left a review here and it was a mixed bag. One gave it 5 stars saying it holds its charge pretty well and the tools can be stored in the vacuum was a big plus.

The other who gave a 3 star rating complained about the crevice tool that needed to be held at a 60 degree angle to be able to push back and forth on the surface.

The last one who left a review gave it 1-star because his vacuum fell from the wall mountable charger on the floor and broke.

Good Housekeeping

They gave this a B-rating saying that it had good power, great on hard floors, okay on carpet, and it had good run time (though they didn’t say how long it ran).

The downsides where noise and small nozzle.

Where can I buy this?

You can buy this handheld vacuum from Amazon for less than $35. And it’ll be eligible to their free 2-day shipping if you join Prime.

Extended warranties are also available of up to 3 years if you want that extra peace of mind.

Conclusion

This vacuum would be a great budget option for folks who don’t have any pets looking for a handheld that’ll do quick clean-up tasks around their homes.

It won’t have enough power to pick up stubborn dirt stuck on carpet but it would do well on hard floors.

Because the nozzle is on the slim site (1.5” wide), this is strictly a spot cleaner, even on stairs but it would complement a stick or upright vacuum that won’t be able to clean edges or corners well. The attachments can be stored in the housing itself so there is very little risk of misplacing them.

One great thing about this product is that you don’t risk burning out the batteries even when you leave it on the charger and it’ll save you a ton on electricity bills (up to 70%).

It also comes with a 3-year warrant which is almost unheard of with cordless vacuums in this price range, so owners will have 3 full years of peace of mind without worrying about buying another handheld.
