Stairs and upholstery are two of the most neglected areas that oftentimes home owners fail to clean on a regular basis.
The reason is simple a lot of vacuums have limited tools to effectively clean up these two areas effectively.
The Eureka EasyClean 71B handheld is a great tool for stairs and upholstery because of the design of its inlet plus it has a brush roll that effective in removing pet hair on these areas.
This only cost less than $50 which is a great bargain in my opinion.
It is a corded vacuum so you’ll have to find an outlet to plug this in but the benefits outweigh the cons.

What to expect from the Eureka EasyClean 71B?
One of the strongest attributes of the EasyClean is suction. Testers in Vacuum Wizard say that it measured 70 on a water lift gauge which is pretty high.
A water lift gauge measures suction.
What makes this great for stairs and upholstery is the Riser Visor feature that makes this equally great to clean these areas vertically and horizontally.
Cord length is around 20 feet but there is no rewind feature but there is a cord wrap area at the back of the vacuum so storing the cord isn’t messy.
The small footprint allows this to be stored in a small area.

Bare Floor Performance
The strong suction plus the motorize brush make this effective on bare floor surfaces. Like I told you earlier this measured 70 on a water lift gauge that measures suction power and that’s above average.
This excels in cleaning fine to medium sized debris and may struggle with larger pieces of dirt not because of a lack of suction.
It will struggle because it may not fit in between the bristles of the brush roll. A work around for this would be using the hose and crevice tool.
While you can clean floors with this, I would not suggest you using this as a floor cleaner because it is a handheld and you’ll need to bend down to reach the floors.
This will be best utilized as a spot cleaner.
This will also excel in cleaning carpeted stairs, an area that a lot of upright and even canister vacuums struggle at.
The Riser Visor feature allows this to clean not only horizontal areas but vertical as well.
It is called a Riser Visor because you can flip the visor both ways allowing to you clean the stairs and the risers as well – the stair risers are toughest to clean.
The Riser Visor…
Vacuum wizard demonstrates how this is done in their video here…
Now even with the 6 inch cleaning path, I’m not sure you’d want to use this exclusively on floors as you’ll either need to bend down or get down on all fours to do so. This again will work great as a spot cleaner on low to medium pile carpet.
Pet Hair Removal
This vacuum literally inhales pet hair. Among the thousands of users that left a review in Amazon, a lot of them were pet owners of dogs and cats that shed a lot of pet hair that is hard to keep up with.
Now if you own a heavy shedding dog like an Akita or a Boston terrier.
The toughest areas to clean would definitely be the sofa, stairs and the edges.
The EasyClean 71B has great suction and a motorized brush roll that allows this to pick up tons of pet hair with minimal effort.
Remember that the dust cup fills up pretty quickly and needs to be emptied quite often if you’re cleaning a large area.

Attachments and Accessories
This only comes with a crevice tool attachment, combine this with the 3 foot flexible hose, you can use this to clean edges as well as nooks and crannies.
This comes with a 20 foot cord and a cord wrap to store it neatly. It does not have any rewinding feature so you’ll have to manually coil and uncoil this.
Filter Clean up
The filter in the 71B is washable and to remove it just push on the release lever that’s located here…
Lift up the dust cup and remove the filter and clean it under running water.
Now emptying the dust cup can be a little bit messy particularly with pet hair because pet hair tends to stick on the cloth filter so you’ll need to use your fingers to take this debris off.
Crucial vacuum shows you how to remove the filter…
It only comes with a one year warranty but remember that this costs less than $40 which is pretty cheap for a good quality vacuum.

The positive reviews have been overwhelming, with more than 4,000 reviews and counting.
A lot of them were 5 star ratings!
This resulted in a number 2 ranking in Amazon’s hand held vacuum rankings based on sales and reviews.
Many of the consumers who left reviews were pet owners who were blown away with the results because of the powerful suction.
Many didn’t expect this much power from a small vacuum like this.
Remember that the motorized brush is powered by a separate motor than the one powering the suction so this means the brush roll will spin at high speed and will pick up loads of pet hair but overtime pet hair will clump around the brush roll and it needs to be regularly cleaned.
Another big praise the EasyClean got was its ability to clean stairs AND the risers, not many handheld vacuums can do that with easy.
This one does it with a simple but clever feature the “Risor Visor” that basically acts like a visor that flips up and down depending on what area you want cleaned.
The common complaints I see all reviews are two things – this can be bit messy to clean/empty and it has a small dirt cup that fills up pretty fast.
It only uses a cloth filter so don’t expect HEPA filtration type quality here, if you have any sort of allergy to dust, wear a mask if you plan on buying this.
Where can I buy this?
The best price I found online was in Amazon and it costs under $50 and it is eligible to their free 2-days shipping if you join Prime. Extended warranties are also available of up to 3 years if you want that extra peace of mind.
This vacuum is great for people looking for a vacuum that will be effective in cleaning up stairs and upholstery without burning a hole in their pocket.
There may be more versatile and high tech vacuums for this purpose like the DC44 or DC59 but when you factor in the price, this is a no-brainer for budget conscious home owners looking for a tool for this purpose.
Pet owners will also benefit from this vacuum because not only does it have strong suction, the motorized brush is powered by a separate motor which simply means that it is strong in picking up pet hair, particularly on carpet and upholstery.
Despite being advertised to be great on car interiors, this will not do well on contoured flooring inside cars because of the design of the vacuum inlet that will not be effective on contoured surfaces plus it is too big to fit in nooks and crannies.
While it has a flexible hose that may help it is too short in my opinion to reach in the tightest of spaces inside a vehicle.
