Miele Dynamic U1 Twist Review: More Versatile Than You Think

You live in a home that has wall to wall carpeting and have asthma.

So cleaning carpet is a necessity. Failure to do so will mean exposure to dust mites and allergens that makes asthma worst.

Miele Dynamic U1 Twist Review

In most cases, I’d recommend a bagless vacuum. But for folks who have a condition like asthma, emptying a bagless exposes them to allergens.

The Miele Dynamic U1 Twist upright is a great option for folks who have a condition like asthma. It’s a bagged vacuum with great suction and agitation that’ll deep clean carpet.

It is also fully capable of above the floor cleaning thanks to the 12-foot flexible hose and 3 foot lightweight telescopic wand.

The downside would be the weight – it weighs around 21 pounds so carrying this around can be a chore.

A quick look at the features

What to expect from the Miele U1 Twist?

Features

The Miele Dynamic Twist is a full sized bagged upright that swivels!

Add caster wheels only available in canister vacuums allows this to be very maneuverable. Despite its bulk moving this around will be easy.

Long power cord

It probably has the longest power cord in the industry at 39 feet.

This means better reach and less time plugging and unplugging.

The long cord also makes this suitable to use in very large homes, even with wall to wall carpeting.

Versatile tool set

It also comes with a 12 foot flexible hose and a 3 foot telescopic wand that has handle. This is something you can use for above the floor cleaning.

Combine it with the three attachments adds a lot of versatility.

Brush roll on/off

If you look closely at the handle, it has the power controls and the brush roll on/off control.

Though I’ve heard that the brush automatically shuts off when it detects that it is on a hard surface.

Carrying this behemoth is made easier because it has a carrying handle on the back.

Motor

Powering this is a 1,200 watt motor and a separate motor for the brush roll that spins it at 4,800 rpm.

This combo results in great suction and agitation, great for deep cleaning carpets.

Again this is a bagged vacuum that uses a 5.45 quart bag, HEPA bags are also available.

It has a sealed system and a post motor filter that prevents dust and allergens from coming back out (a HEPA post motor filter is also available).

Bare Floor Performance

This vacuum is usable on bare floor, tile and hardwood because it has a brush roll on/off feature.

It is a bit bulky so cleaning tight areas can be a challenge, though it comes with a flexible hose and crevice tool that should be able to clean these areas.

Carpet Performance

If you have a large home with a lot of carpet area, then this is why you bought this vacuum.

It has a 1,200 watt vortex motor that will produce great suction.

The main beater bar has it’s own motor that spins at an insane 4,800 rpm which equates to great agitation.

This combo makes this perfectly suitable for deep cleaning even high pile carpet. It has a knob that lets you adjust the suction power for low or deep pile carpet.

However this upright will struggle cleaning stairs because it lacks a mini-turbo brush.

Upholstery Performance

Like what I’ve said in the earlier parts of this review, this is fully capable of above the floor cleaning and that includes upholstery thanks to the flexible hose, telescopic wand plus the attachments – crevice, brush and upholstery tool.

Removing pet hair off upholstery though is another story because it does not have a dedicated tool that will remove pet hair unlike what the Dyson has.

Pet Hair Removal

On carpet and hard surfaces, cleaning up pet hair should not be a problem thanks to the strong suction and agitation but on upholstery it could have some trouble picking up pet hair because it lacks a dedicated tool for it.

If you have a lot of pets at home, I’d suggest you get a vacuum like a DC65 that has a dedicated tangle-free brush tool that is specifically designed for pet hair.

Attachments and Accessories

It comes with 3 – brush tool, crevice tool and upholstery tool. All can be stored on the back of the vacuum.

Cord Length

Power cord is very long at 39 feet but it does not have cord rewind so you’ll have to manually warp it around.

Filter Clean up

Since this is a bagged vacuum there are no filters to clean up. But there is a post motor exhaust filter (located on top of the floor nozzle) that you will need to replace periodically.

Warranty

The motor and casing come with a 7 year warranty while the rest of the vacuum has a 1 year warranty.

Customer Reviews

So far all of the reviews for this product is left by Amazon Vine consumers which means they got the vacuum for free in exchange for the review but as a long time reader of Amazon reviews consumers still leave honest reviews even with a free product – Amazon encourages this and have hand select consumers who join the program based on previous reviews.

Consumers have mostly positive things to say about the U1 Twist, saying it had great suction on all sorts of surfaces from carpet to hardwood.

The SwivelNeck feature is a nice addition because it makes this more maneuverable compared to other uprights this size but don’t expect Dyson-like agility.

If you look at the bottom, the front wheels used are caster wheels at turn 360 degrees which adds to the maneuverability of this hulking machine.

It also has the flat to floor design which means it can bend 180 degrees flat and help you clean areas under the tables.

If there are complaints it is the bulk and weight – this machine weights over 20 pounds and can be chore to carry.

I mentioned earlier about the cost of the bags which isn’t cheap (make sure to the U-type bags), one consumer mentioned that it lasted them between 3 to 6 months.

Their home is around 1,800 square feet with 4 adults and 2 pets.

Another complaint is the lack of a headlight. One option is to go for the more expensive U1 cat and dog vacuum that has an LED headlight and a mini turbobrush that will pick up pet hair.

Where can I buy this?

You can buy this upright vacuum in Amazon for less than $450. And it’ll come with a 2-day free shipping if you join Prime.

Amazon also sells extended warranties of up to 3 years if you want that extra peace of mind.

To wrap up

This vacuum would be great for people who suffer from asthma that own large homes with a lot of carpet because it uses a bagged system with an exhaust filter that prevents 99.5 dust from coming back out. The bag system also makes it easier to dispose but the cost does add up.

The long 39 foot power cord means you can use this inside a large mansion but don’t count on it cleaning a tall flight of stairs.

It is a heavy beast weight slightly over 21 pounds but it does come with a handle to make it easier to carry. One of the great features it has is the SwivelNeck feature plus caster front wheels on the base that make it easier to move around compared to cleaners without these.

Overall this is a great cleaner with a nice warranty but it comes at a hefty price, just under $450 if you buy it in Amazon. But if you’re willing to invest in a robust cleaning product, then look no further than the Dynamic U1 Twist from Miele.
