Have you ever heard about the brand Samsung? I bet you have one of their smartphones.

It looks similar to Dyson and Dyson thinks so too. This is why they sued Samsung for alleged copyright infringement.
Going back to the Samsung MotionSync, this is a canister vacuum with a motorized brush roll that will work well on carpet and hard surfaces because it has a brush roll on/off.
It also comes with a HEPA filter so allergens say inside the bin. And it uses cyclonic filtration so filters stay clean longer.
Price wise it is slightly cheaper than the Dyson but warranty is a question mark since neither Amazon nor Samsung states how long the warranty is (Best Buy and consumers say that it comes with a 5 year warranty for the parts and labor).
Performance wise, consumer reviews say that it performed well on carpet (more on that below).
Let’s find out how this new product from Samsung compares with other canister vacuums.
A quick look at the features
- Easy to maneuver because it has swivel steering
- 7” cleaning path
- Built-in dust sensor on the floor tool that tells you when there is dust on the floor

- Remote control handle for the power and brush roll on and off
- Has foot controls for power and power cord
- Certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma Society of Canada
- Easy to empty dust cup
- 1,200 watt motor producing 210 air watts of suction power

- Has HEPA filtration
- Brush roll on/off feature makes this usable on bare floor
- Easy to adjust telescopic wand
- Has fingertip controls – no need to bend down to turn on the vacuum or turn on the brush roll
- Has swivel steering – easier maneuverability
- Wide 12.7” floor tool with a motorized brush
- Has the similar ball technology found in the Dyson that allows it to turn on the dime
Cons
- Warranty is not specified, you still have to ask but Best Buy says that it comes with a 5 year warranty on the parts and labor
- Floor tool has a plowing effect on larger debris – that’s because it seals itself on the carpet for better deep cleaning
- Short power cord
- Heavy – weighs 27 pounds
- No storage for the attachments
- Even with the swivel feature, it is hard to maneuver in tight areas
- Mini turbine brush does not work well in picking up dirt (based on some reviews)
What to expect from the Samsung Motion Sync?
Almost every feature of the MotionSync aims for comfort.
First it has fingertip controls that allow you to turn on the machine without the need to bend down.
It still retains foot controls just in case you are comfortable using them.
HEPA filtration (great for folks with allergy)
Inside the canister, you’ll find that it uses 14 cyclonic chambers that ensure fine dust particles don’t clog the filter thus maintaining cleaning performance. These cyclones also extends the time needed to clean the filter.
Allergy suffers this is a great option for you because it has HEPA filtration that keeps majority of the allergens inside the bin.
It was even certified to be asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma Society of Canada.

The main cleaning head is a 12.7 inch wide tool with a motorized brush. It has a 10 amp motor so it will have enough suction to deep clean carpet and area rugs.
Attachments and Accessories
This versatile canister vacuum comes with four attachments…
- 12.7 inch power brush
- Turbine brush
- Parquet specialist brush (for hard floors)
- 2-in-1 crevice/brush tool.

Cord Length
Power cord is short at just 23 feet but it has cord rewind that makes storage less of a hassle.
Filter Clean up
In the canister, you’ll find two filters, a foam pre-motor micro and exhaust HEPA filter. Pre-motor filter is washable but HEPA isn’t.
Here’s how to access both.

See it in Action
Here’s a brief overview of the features and performance on a tiled surface (sorry it’s not in English).
Warranty
Amazon or Samsung does not specify the warranty but BestBuy.com says it comes with a 5 year warranty on parts and labor, consumers also said that it has a 5 year warranty.
Bare Floor Performance
This will work well on bare floor surfaces like hard wood or linoleum because it has strong suction (210 air watts).
It also has the option to turn off the brush roll which prevents it from scratching expensive flooring.
Take note that because it has a low profile, there will be a flowing effect when cleaning larger debris.
If you’re cleaning such, you’ll need to remove the floor tool and pick up larger bits of dirt directly from the wand or use the brush tool.
Carpet Performance
Before I do my commentary on carpet cleaning, watch this video review…
The carpet looks clean but it actually cleaned a few days so there’s a lot of dirt underneath carpet fibers.
In terms of performance, it does a good job deep cleaning as shown by the amount of dirt picked up.
The floor tool creates a seal that allows it to deep clean but at the cost of plowing larger bits of dirt forward.
For larger bits of surface dirt, just take off the floor tool and use the wand to pick those up.
The motorized brush seems strong enough to work on medium pile carpet. So if you have this at home then take a look at this as an alternative to the Dyson canister (if that is too expensive for you).
You’ll also notice in the video review that the consumer didn’t have a hard time adjusting the telescopic wand which is a huge time saver especially transitioning from floor to other areas in the house.
Upholstery Performance
It comes with a mini turbo brush. This is a downsized version of the main floor tool.
You can also use the combination crevice/dusting brush for non-fabric upholstery like leather.
Pet Hair Removal
As you’ve seen in the video I shared above, it will do a very good job picking up pet hair on carpet because of the strong suction and motorized brush.
Just make sure to regularly check for wrapped up hair on the brush roll and use a scissor or blade to cut them off. This is a must do maintenance so that performance does not degrade over time.
Here’s how to do it…

On upholstery, you can use the turbine brush to pick up pet hair on upholstery though there were some consumers who said that it wasn’t very effective in picking up dirt because the brush roll is only powered by air.

What consumers say
Since this vacuum is relatively new in the market, there aren’t many reviews. At the moment there are less the 50 in Amazon.
Most of the reviews are positive saying that the MotionSync was great at picking up dust and pet hair on carpet.
Great for deep cleaning
The wide 12.7 inch floor tool has a powerful brush roll that does a good job in digging in and picking up embedded dirt.
Not as strong as a Dyson
Consumers say that suction is strong but it still lags behind a Dyson.
If you look at the specs, the Dyson DC39 has 280 air watts while this has only 210. Big difference would be agitation. Samsung’s main cleaning tool has a motorized brush while Dyson does not have a motor.
No swivel feature
Another complaint was the swivel feature, even though it swivels.
Some folks seemed to have a hard time maneuvering this around really tight areas because of the width of the nozzle and the bulkiness of the canister.
There is an overload feature in the floor tool that stops the motorized brush from spinning when it detects an object clogging it.
One consumer didn’t know about that feature and continued using the vacuum without removing the clog and resetting it so I thought that I’d add that information here.
No storage for tools
The attachments while useful don’t have any storage so you’ll either have to buy a separate bag or find an area in your home to store this which didn’t sit well to some consumers.
One of these tools, the mini turbine brush does not have a motor. It is air-driven so this affects performance.
Another complaint would be price. Amazon obviously read this and since has lowered their price.
If you look at the overall consensus of the reviews, a lot of consumers really liked the performance and build quality.
Some consumers complained about the lack of performance and lack of storage for the attachments.
User manual could also use some work because it wasn’t very clean in terms of instructions for putting the unit together.
Where can I buy this?
You can buy this versatile Samsung canister from Amazon for less than $500. And it’ll be eligible for their free 2-day shipping if you join Prime.
Amazon also sells extended warranties of up to 3 years if you want that extra peace of mind.
To Wrap Up
This would be a great option for people looking for deep cleaning canister vacuum but not willing to spend over $400 for one.
It has some nice features not even found in the Dyson like the finger-tip controls.
It will not match the Dyson in terms of pure suction power but it makes up for that with a strong brush roll that is capable of deep cleaning carpet.
Also it uses a HEPA filter that blocks allergens from coming back out. In fact it was certified by the Asthma Society of Canada to be asthma and allergen friendly.
Cord is short at just 23 feet long but that’s because it has a cord rewind feature.
Another potential downside is the weight, it tips the scales at close to 27 pounds so if you have back or a little bit weak, this may not be the vacuum for you.
Overall, Samsung has put together a great package that can be an alternative to the more expensive Dyson.
It has everything you need to be an all-around cleaner on floors and other areas like upholstery and stairs on small to medium sized homes.
