Summary

I wasn’t expecting much, to be honest, but the Yeedi K650 over-delivered in some areas. Sure, there are limitations with airflow and cleaning embedded dirt, but it did very well in the surface tests. The two side brushes tend to scatter (large clumps) debris, but it was surprisingly good in the edge cleaning test. I also like the app with the option to select edge and spot-cleaning functions. Also, it offers unlimited scheduling, the cheapest robot vacuum I’ve tested with this feature. If you’re looking for a cheap robot vacuum, consider the K650.

Introduction to the Yeedi K650

Yeedi is a relative newcomer to the robot vacuum space, but their first release, the K600, is quite popular. The K650 aims to improve upon it with upgrades in suction, run time, plus convenience features.

This model has WIFI and an excellent smartphone app with features you’ll find in more expensive options.

It’s one of the cheapest with such. It adds a layer of convenience versus alternatives that rely on a remote. Once connected, you can access the robot from anywhere in the home. And schedule unlimited runs per day.

DesignYeedi K650 top

The K650 has a predominantly white finish with black accents. Its interface is simple with a single button (default cleaning cycle).

All the other features are accessible through the Yeedi app you can download by scanning a QR code.

Dustbin and filter

Yeedi K650 dustbin

It has a jumbo-sized dustbin with an 800 ml capacity (one of the largest) slides out from the rear. Emptying it is easy with the top door style design.

Yeedi K650 dustbin open

There are three layers of filtration – a thin mesh, foam, and HEPA. The first two are washable, but the HEPA filter isn’t.

Two side brushes

Yeedi K650 twin side brush

Underneath, it has two side brushes with a clip-on design. You don’t need a screwdriver to remove it as it pops out.

The side brushes have bristled tips and funnels dirt towards the primary brush in the middle.

It spins at a rapid enough pace to scatter debris around. But this is only an issue when cleaning large quantities of dirt. It shouldn’t be a concern for daily cleanups.

The unit I got doesn’t have a mopping attachment included, so it’s only suitable for vacuuming floors.

Interchangeable brush rolls

Yeedi K650 brushes

Users will get two brush rolls out of the box – a standard and an all-rubber brush. I tested both, and there isn’t much of a difference with how each one picks up debris. Both will clean light stuff like dust well.

Low profile design

This robot measures only 3.1″ tall and fits under our sofa with a 3.5″ clearance. It’s something that other LIDAR-based robots like the Roborock S5 Max, Dreame D9, and 360 S6 didn’t fit underneath.

App Features

One of the surprises for me is the availability of a smartphone app. The K650 is one of the least expensive options with such and unlocks convenience features not possible with other models without it.

Cleaning modes

Yeedi K650 app interface

You’ll see three cleaning modes – edge, auto, and spot in the app’s main interface.

  • Edge: Cleans only the edges.
  • Auto: Engages the default cleaning cycle where the robot pinballs until the battery is low and tries to dock.
  • Spot: The robot spirals in an area – useful if you need to clean a specific zone.

Four power modes

Yeedi K650 power settings

Users will have the option to select between four power settings – Quiet, Standard, Max, and Max+. Having more options will allow folks to choose between a lower but quieter mode for maintenance tasks. Or a higher setting for cleaning surfaces like carpet that require more suction.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a carpet boost feature, so you’ll have to change the setting manually for transitions.

Unlimited scheduling

Yeedi K650 scheduling

One of my favorite features is the scheduling. You can set unlimited runs per day, something not possible with robots at this price range previously.

With the oversized dustbin, this feature helps with autonomy as there’s no need to turn it on manually.

Do not disturb

This feature prevents the robot from automatically starting scheduled runs on a pre-programmed time frame. It also shuts off the speaker during this period.

Cleaning log

Yeedi K650 accessory usageYeedi K650 cleaning log

It shows the previous cleaning cycles and the total area cleaned, the number of cleanups, and the robot’s overall usage duration. It’s a feature Yeedi adapted from the Xiaomi app.

Accessories usage

This tab provides a heads up to users when to change the side brush, primary brush roll, and filter. It’s a time-based system, so you’ll have to check these components visually periodically for maintenance.

How does the Yeedi K650 navigate?

The K650 utilizes a standard algorithm, meaning it pinballs around in a random direction. Of the three Yeedi options, only the K700 has predictable navigation with its top-mounted camera.

I did a coverage test, scattering quaker oats all over the room to see how much of it the K650 picks up.

It did quite well, picking up most of it by the 13-minute mark – which is faster than the Roomba E5 (22 minutes). So navigation is smart enough for full coverage. Passes were actually clean in the max power setting (third highest). However, the lack of intelligent navigation means it won’t be as efficient for cleaning more than one room at a time.

How does it do in cramped zones?

For a robot with standard navigation, the K650 did quite well. It managed to get in and out of tight spots without any problems. Also, it didn’t get stuck between the legs of the office chair. So it’s an encouraging sign. You’ll have to remove wires as these will wrap around the side brush.

Climb-ability is another strong suit as it was able to go up thresholds of up to 0.7 inches. It went over this 0.8-inch area rug easily. However, I would remove light rugs, especially those with tassels, as these will wrap around the primary or side brush.

Will the Yeedi K650 scuff furniture?

The K650 is good in this aspect, slowing down and not bumping into furniture hard. I tested it by placing an alcohol dispenser and bottle in the middle of the room. It barely moved the two containers. In several instances, it turned and completely avoided it.

How much power does the Yeedi K650 have?

Yeedi claims the K650 has 2,000 Pascals of suction. I still don’t have a way to check suction, but I use an anemometer to measure airflow at the cleaning head.

Here are the results:

  • Quiet: 5.24 CFM
  • Standard: 9 CFM
  • Max: 12.38 CFM
  • Max+: 13.74 CFM

Decent results, but a notch below more premium brands like Roborock and Roomba. It has good enough agitation to make clean passes, but it doesn’t provide enough agitation for cleaning embedded dirt.

Cleaning performance

I did a ton of experiments with this robot on how it cleans bare floors and carpets.

While the overall scores aren’t at the level of mid-priced options, pick-up is decent. What drags the score down is the twin side brushes, scatter debris, and random navigation.

  • Overall: 88.07%
  • Hard floor: 96.2%
  • Carpet (surface): 99.1%
  • Deep cleaning: 66.52%
  • Sand on hard floor: 90.46%

Hard floor results

Yeedi K650 cleaning quaker oats on hard floor

Yeedi K650 cleaning coffee grounds on hard floor

Yeedi K650 cleaning quinoa on hard floor

Yeedi K650 cleaning pet litter on hard floor

  • Quaker oats: 99.2%
  • Coffee grounds: 99.4%
  • Quinoa: 8.4%
  • Pet litter: 97.8%

The K650 scored the highest on the hard floor tests. Even in standard mode, it picked up debris on this area cleanly. However, with sand, you may need to use max or max+ for the best results.

Again, the two side brushes scattering large clumps of debris, especially pet litter and quinoa.

But for stuff like dust, this shouldn’t be a concern.

Sand on hard floor test

Yeedi K650 sand on hard floor test

One of the toughest debris to clean is sand. I tested how the K650 cleans it by scattering 50 grams on a test area.

The Yeedi did slightly better with the standard brush with a 92% score versus the 90.1% of the rubber brush.

It also did better using the spot cleaning mode than the standard.

  • Default mode: 86.6%
  • Spot cleaning mode: 94.33%

If you average the two scores, you’ll get 90.46%.

Several factors hurt the K650 during this experiment. First is the twin side brushes scattering portions of the sand. The second factor is the narrow brush roll. It only has a seven-inch wide cleaning path, so it needs more passes to pick up sand. Lastly, random navigation plays a part; that’s why it did better with the spot cleaning mode.

Edge cleaning

Yeedi K650 edge cleaning

One surprise for me during the testing phase is how well this robot cleaned edges. It’s one of the best round shaped robots for this task.

Even after the first pass, it was able to pick up most of the coffee grounds scattered. The reach of the side brushes helped in cleaning this zone, funneling debris towards the main brush.

Hair wrap test

I tested both brushes. Its ability to resists tangles with one gram of five, and seven-inch hair strands then weighed the amount of hair inside the dustbin and brush.

Standard brush roll

Yeedi K650 hair wrap test 5 inch strands

  • 5-inch hair strands: 0.47 grams (47%) inside the bin, 0.53 grams (53%) on the brush
  • 7-inch hair strands: 0.39 grams (39%) inside the bin, 0.61 grams (61%) on the brush

All-rubber brush

Yeedi K650 hair wrap rubber brush on 7 inch hair

  • 5-inch hair strands: 0.46 grams (46%) inside the bin, 0.54 grams (54%) on the brush
  • 7-inch hair strands: 0.14 grams (14%) inside the bin, 0.86 grams (86%) on the brush

Both the standard and all-rubber side brush picked up about the same amount of hair. However, the latter struggled with longer 7-inch strands.

Also, I noticed portions of hair clumping up on both axles. So these are areas you’ll have to clean regularly, especially if you have pets or live with someone with long hair.

Carpet results

I also used the same set of debris to test on carpet. The K650 had lower scores overall and struggled with fine debris like sand, picking up in the mid-80s because of the lack of agitation.

Low pile

Yeedi K650 cleaning quaker oats on low pile carpet

Yeedi K650 cleaning coffee grounds on low pile carpet

Yeedi K650 cleaning quinoa on low pile carpet

Yeedi K650 cleaning pet litter on low pile carpet

  • Quaker oats: 99.2%
  • Coffee grounds: 96.2%
  • Quinoa: 100%
  • Pet litter: 100%

The K650 did best on quinoa and pet litter. Since carpet has more friction, these didn’t scatter as much. However, it was slightly worst with coffee grounds, but still a decent score at 96.2%.

Mid pile

Yeedi K650 cleaning quaker oats on mid pile carpet

Yeedi K650 cleaning coffee grounds on mid pile carpet

Yeedi K650 cleaning quinoa on mid pile carpet

Yeed K650 cleaning pet litter on mid pile carpet

  • Quaker oats: 99.4%
  • Coffee grounds: 98.6%
  • Quinoa: 100%
  • Pet litter: 99.4%

The mid-pile results mirror the low pile results – it did well with Quina and Pet litter, but not as well with coffee grounds.

Deep cleaning test

Another experiment I do with robot vacuums is a deep cleaning test where I rub 100 grams of fine sand on mid pile carpet.

For this robot, I did four sets of tests using the spot cleaning mode and default navigation.

  • Default: 59.15%
  • Spot: 73.9%

The average for all the tests is 66.52%, which is decent for a robot vacuum at the budget level. It’s a few notches below a Roomba 675 and E5, but those options cost twice more than this model.

How much noise does the Yeedi Y650 produce?

I used a sound meter to check noise levels, and here are the results.

  • Quiet: 58.1 dB
  • Standard: 59.6 dB
  • Max: 64.9 dB
  • Max+: 66.9 dB

The K650 is docile in the two lower settings, but not so much in the two higher modes.

How long will the Yeedi K650 run?

According to Yeedi, the K650 will run for up to 130 minutes in standard mode, but that number decreases with the two higher modes.

I wouldn’t recommend it for larger homes since it lacks the recharge and resume feature or smart navigation.

The number goes down if you use either the max or max+ settings.

What comes in the box?

  • Yeedi K650 robot vacuum
  • Charging dock and plug
  • User manual
  • One extra all-rubber brush roll
  • Two side brushes

Availability of Parts

The popularity of Yeedi has spurred manufacturers to sell parts like brushes and filters. This bodes well for this brand’s long-term viability since it’s cheaper to maintain. You can buy sets of these to save even more money.

Maintenance

Regular upkeep is critical in keeping this robot vacuum in tip-top shape. Parts like the brushes and filter need regular cleaning to prevent premature wear.

  1. Primary brush roll: This part is the most abused component as stuff like hair will accumulate. Check this part regularly and clean any debris build-up to prevent unnecessary friction.
  2. Side brush: The K650 has two side brushes. Check for any hair wrapping on the base.
  3. Dustbin: Empty the container after every cleaning cycle. Dust mites can breed it settles long enough. The dustbin is washable, so it’s easy to clean thoroughly.
  4. Filter: The HEPA filter isn’t washable. Tap it on a solid surface to dislodge dirt sticking on the folds. Use a handheld with a brush attachment to clean and extend its service life.
  5. Drop sensors: Wipe the four drop sensors with a dry, clean microfiber towel at least once a week.
  6. Wheels: Use a clean, slightly damp microfiber towel to clean the side and caster wheels.

Does the Yeedi K650 provide excellent value?

The low price of the K650 makes it an attractive option for people looking for a cheap robot vacuum. There are issues with this robot, like the two side brushes scattering debris, random navigation, and the narrow brush roll requiring more passes.

The airflow is decent, but don’t expect this to deep clean your carpet like a Roomba because it doesn’t have “dirt detect.”

But it’s quite decent for daily cleaning tasks, and its navigation is smart enough to clean a small to medium room.

I wouldn’t recommend this for a large home since it doesn’t have smart navigation and randomly traverses.

The best use of a robot vacuum like this is running it on a per room basis to maximize thoroughness.

The Verdict: Decent Budget Robot Vacuum with an App

Despite its flaws, the Yeedi K650 is a decent option for a cheap robot vacuum. It has some features you don’t see in a product at this low cost.

Cleaning performance is decent, but don’t expect Roomba-level results. However, it’s sufficient for daily cleaning tasks that only deal with dust or hair.

I like the low-profile design because it’ll fit under furniture with shorter clearances. This area accumulates dust at a high rate, and this robot will help clean these zones.
