Dyson V6 Mattress Review: A Dyson for Cleaning Mattresses

Not a lot people know this but one of the biggest sources is allergens is the bed.

Dyson V6 Mattress Review

Yes, the very thing that you lay on for around a third of your day has lots of microscopic dust that triggers allergies.

The sad thing is, not many people realize it.

This is a big reason why people would sneeze but really don’t have colds.

Allergic rhinitis is a condition that’s common here in our country because of the dusty conditions.

It’s triggered by allergens like dust.

Don’t believe me?

Grab a bright LED light then slap your bed a few times, you’ll see particles flying all over the place.

Those are allergens that you sleep on every night.

There are a few ways to get rid of that.

First you can hire a professional who will use a tool like the Rainbow to deep clean the mattress. This will cost easily a few hundred dollars.

Second option would be buying the machine itself – this will be way more expensive (close to $2,000) but at least you can reuse it as often as you like.

The problem with a Rainbow is that it’s as heavy as a truck and if you have a small home, forget about it as it will take up a lot of space.

The last option which for me is the best is to get a compact tool that it cordless and will do the job for you.

Let me introduce to you the Dyson V6 Mattress…

It’s basically a handheld vacuum that’s fitted with a mini-motorized brush designed to agitate and suck in microscopic allergens.

Nope it will not cost a couple of grand nor will it weight a ton which is perfect if you want to clean your mattresses every other day.

What’s the best part?

This machine is cordless, which means you’re not limited by the length of the cord. You can use this without looking for an outlet to plug this in.

You can use this not only in a traditional home but also in a mobile home where it isn’t always possible to use a corded appliance.

Features at a glance

  • Equipped with the same powerful V6 motor as the Dyson V6 Absolute
  • Has a sealed HEPA filtration system that will trap 99.97% of allergens
  • Motorized mattress tool agitates fibers to release dust particles and allergens
  • Compact enough to reach the hard to reach areas
  • Lithium batteries will run for around 20 minutes
  • Engineered to be more quite than the V6 Absolute

Pros

  • Very good suction power
  • Stiff brushes really agitates
  • Compact size is great for small homes even for mobile homes
  • HEPA filtration

Cons

  • Still expensive compared to other handhelds
  • Not too much tools included

What to expect from this mattress cleaner?

Like what I said the V6 Mattress is a handheld with a mini turbo brush to agitation mattresses or fabric upholstery.

Features

Along with that specialized tool it comes with a mini dusting brush, combination accessory and crevice tool so that’s a total of 4 tools.

It does not come with an extension wand so you can’t use this on the floor as a dedicated floor cleaner.

Think of this as a dedicated tool to clean your mattress or pillows with the option to clean loose dirt as a spot cleaner.

What can this clean?

This machine is primarily designed to clean microscopic dust from mattress using the mattress tool.

The other attachments included like the crevice tool or brush tool allow this to double as a spot cleaner on vents, keyboards and upholstery.

You can also use the mattress tool on upholstery. The stiff bristles work great on digging in and agitating dirt and the strong suction picks up even microscopic allergens.

Can this clean pet hair?

Since the mattress tool has a motorized brush in it, this machine will be able to pick up pet hair without any problems.

Vacuums such as this with a motorized brush will have a tendency to attract long hair. And you’ll have to cut these off so it does not pile up.

If you have a lot of pets opt for something that will be better suited for cleaning pet hair like the Shark Navigator.

Consumer Reviews

Consumers really liked how the V6 Mattress cleaned their beds. The amount of filth it picked up was a big surprise. You’d think your bed is clean with the eye test but when you clean it with agitation, you’ll find out that it really isn’t.

One of the biggest misconceptions that people have (include me in that list) is that the mattress cover will protect the mattress itself from dust mites and allergens but that’s not the case when you use this machine that will pick up these little critters.

The downside though is you’ll have to use the max setting to clean the mattress and this cuts down the run time from 20 minutes down to 6 minutes.

Using the max also heats the battery pretty fast, so you’ll have to cool it down.

There’s a HEPA filter which is nice but the motorized brush has the tendency to “kick” larger debris. But remember that this vacuum works best on mattresses and fabric upholstery not hard surfaces.

The tools included allow consumers to use this aside from cleaning mattresses and increases the versatility of this machine which will justify the cost.

Lastly there’s the price. This vacuum is more expensive than most handhelds available in the market but consider it an investment.

Where can I buy this?

You can buy the Dyson V6 Mattress from Amazon for less than $230. And it’ll come with the 2-day free shipping if you join Prime.

Amazon also sells extended warranties of up to 3 years if you want that extra peace of mind.

To Wrap Up

If you’re particular about clean up allergens in your home, this tool will clean up one of the biggest sources of allergens – your mattress!

Unlike a clunky machine like the Rainbow, this machine doesn’t weight a ton so you can use this even if you have a small home where buying a large machine is out of the question.

The downside though is the runtime, if you want to use this on the mattress you definitely have to use the Max button which only runs for about 6 minutes after that it’s back to the charger.

But if you use the right technique, you’ll be able to finish a queen sized mattress in maybe less than 6 minutes.

When I say the right technique, I mean using only forward motion because this machine works best when pushed forward.

Price is another downside but if you afford it this tool will help keep mattresses and upholstery clean. Like they say health is wealth and if you can keep your home clean medical bills go down.

If you suffer from allergic rhinitis then this machine is a must-buy, it saves you money from hiring a professional cleaning company to clean your mattresses and it keeps your home cleaner from triggering your allergies.

Is there anybody in the “vacuum land” smart enough to figure out what wand/stick/extension to use, so I can use the dc58-dc59 or v6 motorized head with my v6 mattress? Thanks.
